Q: What is the Long Service Recognition program? A: The Long Service Recognition program at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is a way to show appreciation for the dedication and commitment of our staff, medical staff, and volunteers.
Q: Who is eligible for the Long Service Recognition program? A:
- Staff (Full-Time and Part-Time): Continuous years of employment are calculated from the original hire date.
- Casual Staff: Must have contributed a minimum of 225 hours to be eligible.
- Medical Staff: Calculated from the original date of credentialing.
- Volunteers: Based on continuous years of volunteer service from the start date.
Q: How are years of service calculated? A:
- Staff: From the original hire date.
- Casual Staff: Must have contributed a minimum of 225 hours.
- Medical Staff: From the original date of credentialing.
- Volunteers: From the start date of volunteer service.
Q: How are Medical Imaging staff recognized? A: Medical Imaging staff hired directly into VCH are recognized based on their original hire date. Those who transferred from another health authority in May 2011 are recognized based on the hire date from the previous authority.
Q: How are recipients acknowledged? A: Recipients receive a congratulatory email and an invitation to a local long service event. In-person events are held from February to April, and service pins and gifts are mailed to recipients' home addresses.
Q: How do I confirm my hire date if I think it is incorrect? A:
- Staff: Contact Employee Records and Benefits at EmployeeRBSupport@hssbc.ca.
- Volunteers: Reach out to your Volunteer Manager or Coordinator.
- Medical Staff: Contact Medical Affairs.
Q: How do I know if I am eligible for a long service gift and how do I choose my gift? A: Eligible recipients will receive an email in January with instructions on how to order their gift from the catalogue, which will be available for 90 days starting in February.
Q: Why didn’t I get recognized for my 5 years of long service? A: The 5-year milestone was added in 2019 to recognize those who achieved it in 2018 or later. If you achieved your 5-year milestone in 2018 or later and did not receive your service pin, please contact VCHrecognition@vch.ca.
